Irrigation

Water for the field.
Pressure for the application.

A daily water volume and an irrigation pressure are different requirements. Describe the crop water-supply task and the zones that run at the same time.

Define the task

Direct supply or storage first?

01

Direct to irrigation

The pumping arrangement must meet the active zone flow and pressure while supplying the field. Include the irrigation equipment and pipe route.

02

Fill storage first

Define tank replenishment separately from the downstream irrigation duty. Storage capacity and the available filling period belong in the brief.

For a useful recommendation

Start with the zones
that operate together.

The total field area alone does not establish a pump duty. Use the flow and pressure needed by the irrigation equipment, including the filtration and distribution arrangement.

Build a selection brief
Water demand
Daily volume, irrigation schedule and seasonal variation.
Operating zones
Simultaneous zones and the flow/pressure required by emitters or sprinklers.
Water route
Source level, elevation, pipe route and filtration requirements.
Energy & storage
Available electrical supply, storage arrangement or a solar requirement.

Before you choose

A few useful
questions.

Can a pump be chosen from the field area alone?

Field area is useful context. Selection also needs the water volume, simultaneous zone demand, delivery conditions and pressure required by the irrigation equipment.

Does tank filling also provide the irrigation pressure?

An open storage tank separates the filling task from downstream delivery. The irrigation supply may have its own gravity or pumping arrangement.

Two irrigation tasks

The crop is only
part of the specification.

Field irrigation

How many zones run together?

Record the active zones, flow and pressure required at their inlets, and the pipe route. Direct pumping and filling an intermediate storage tank are different duties.

Greenhouse & drip lines

Include the filters and end pressure.

Account for the required emitter pressure and the losses across pipework and filtration. Describe the clean-water supply separately from any fertiliser-dosing loop.

An agricultural application does not establish suitability for fertiliser solution, abrasive water or chemicals. Confirm the water characteristics and the selected pump’s limits.

Where will the water come from?

The water source helps narrow the product family. Flow and pressure come next.
